class CREATOR

CNC is a great way to create wood projects using computer models. In this class we will cover the Xerocraft Wood CNC Shop process and provide an overview of the available CNC machines. CNC can be a complicated process and there are several ways in which our equipment can be damaged. Therefore, we require that CNC Shop members demonstrate their ability to understand and operate the CNC equipment safely prior to being certified.
This class is required for active members who wish to be certified in the wood CNC shop. There are 2 required steps to be certified. First, you take this overview class on the Xerocraft CNC Shop process and software. After taking the overview class, you are then required to develop a project file that will take less than 2 hours to carve. This file will be used to demonstrate your ability to run the CNC machines safely. You then need to reserve a time with a CNC shop staffer to complete your certification.
Experience with, or knowledge of, a CAD/CAM and a Machine Control program is required before taking this class. VCarve Pro (for CAD/CAM) and OpenBuilds Control (for Machine Control) will be used during the class. It is recommended that you watch Xerocraft Introduction to CNC Part 1 and 2 ) and OpenBuilds Introduction / Hello World Tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI-0n1tFO5U) videos before attending the class. You must have a (concept for) your first project before attending the class. If you do not have a project (concept), you will be assigned a project designed to produce an item for use by the CNC Shop.
