Admission
Registration fee provides access to five classes in the beginning stone setting series. The class is offered on 5 consecutive Thursday evenings.
3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/18 and 4/25/2024
Class Description
First a little about Sam Patania. Sam is a third-generation jeweler in a family of well-known jewelers from the southwest. Several books and articles have been written about them. Their work is included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
Over 5 two-hour sessions, watch Sam demonstrate his methods for making simple to more complex stone settings. After the demonstrations, there will be time to work on your own settings. Sam will allow students to take pictures and videos on their phones during the class. Tools will be available. Bring your own stones and metal or buy them from Sam at a very reasonable price. You will not be making a finished project. You will only be learning stone setting techniques. Once you have mastered how to make your settings, transfer your new skills to your future jewelry projects. The addition of stones makes earrings, rings, bracelets, brooches and pendants more appealing and more saleable.
General Class Outline
1 How to bezel set a calibrated cabochon.
2 How to set free-form cabochons including those with sharp angles.
3 How to create a setting on a rounded form such as a bracelet.
4 How to set a small cabochon in a purchased tube setting and where to buy.
