June 14: Intro to CAD (Computer Aided Design), A 2-Part Course

  • Attendance of the first class on June 14 is REQUIRED to attend the second class on June 21.
  • Only those who RSVPed for the first class can attend the second class.
  • Attendees DO NOT need to pay another $10 fee for attending the second class.

What to bring:
- A laptop with wifi (Mac, Windows, or Linux),
- A mouse is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Skill level: Beginner, no previous experience required


Intro to CAD Part 1: Sketches and Part Modeling
Time: 7:15-9:45 pm
Date: Wednesday, June 14

You'll learn how to create 3D models for your next project. Whether it's for a 3D printer, the laser cutter, or you just need a layout to make your idea a reality.

We'll cover creating sketches and layouts that can be used to model 3D objects. We will go through the basics of how to think through modeling a 3D part and how to design for future changes to a project. We will be using the free browser-based CAD software, Onshape.

This is the first class of a two-part series. The second class is on Wednesday, 6/21.

Time: 7:15-9:45 pm
Date: Wednesday, June 21
What to bring:
- A laptop with wifi (Mac, Windows, or Linux),
- A mouse is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Skill level: Attended Intro to CAD Part 1: Sketches and Part Modeling

You'll learn how to create 3D models for your next project. Whether it's for a 3D printer, the laser cutter, or you just need a layout to make your idea a reality.

We will finish up learning the basics of modeling 3D objects. We will then learn how to put the parts we designed together in an assembly and make them move. We will be using the free browser-based CAD software, Onshape.

This is the second class of a two-part series. The first class was on Wednesday, 6/21.
