Today I met with some representatives of Second Sky, a 501c3 started at Creative Machines. Second Sky is a community hub and kids-oriented STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) educator. The organization has only just gotten started and they're looking for volunteers to build up the facility and instructors who want to teach kids.
Second Sky is also currently running their first kids' workshop: soapbox race cars. Robin at Second Sky is in charge of the workshop. She plans to build them out of wood and cardboard boxes and use these instructions. She wants to make a total of seven race cars. The parts for the race car frames are already being made for the kids to assemble.
Robin is looking for volunteers with some experience in using power tools to instruct the kids and guide them in the remaining construction of the chassis.
From the way she made it sound you would be doing Robin an incredible personal favor to get this workshop realized. Apparently, building soapbox race cars for kids has been a lifelong dream of hers that just became an unexpected reality when she pitched this class idea and got the funding. Now she's pressed for time but determined to make the workshop great.
