Bird Weathervane

100% complete

This weathervane was made mostly from salvaged parts.  In the "free to take" shelf. I found 4 skateboard wheels mounted on their base. My thought was that at the least the bearings would be useful. Then in the welding area's  practice scrap pile I found the metal bird outline, the circular plate and the square rod that became the body and stand for the weathervane. The rotating wings and tail were salvaged ⅛" plywood cut to patterns I devised on the laser cutter. The bird's head, embedded in the metal frame was cut on a band saw in the wood shop. In the end, one wheel became the swivel and two others, allowed the wings to rotate freely.  My wife, June, an artist, helped me decorate the tail. It's mounted on a high wall in the front of my house.
