This is a 16" wide x 20" long x 25" tall nightstand made from sapele with a drawer made from hard maple. The portion that surrounds the drawer is one continuous piece of sapele, in which I milled each corner down to a veneer thickness and then wrapped it around curved blocks. Above and below this part, I framed plywood with sapele and then applied a sapele veneer. I did not use solid sapele because, even though it is quarter-sawn, it may experience too much seasonal movement, which could cause splitting. I finished it with Danish oil, followed by shellac and a lacquer topcoat. However, I experienced some checking (cracking) in the lacquer, so I removed the lacquer and switched to polyurethane. Everything, with the exception of glue-up and finishing, was done at Xerocraft.
