Singer Model 66 Restoration

35% complete

Someone was generous enough to donate this lovely Singer model 66 to Xerocraft. It needs quite a bit of TLC (oiling, cleaning, etc), a new table, and a new manual foot pedal.

So far I have gone ahead and ordered some of the smaller parts that are currently missing, including the bobbin winder tire, treadle sewing machine leather belt, bobbins that fit the machine, and the bobbin cover. I may grab new feet once I get things running. I have also done some minor cleaning to see if everything is otherwise working. There are a few issues I am hoping that a good deep clean and service will help fix. Ill re-assess when thats done.

Note: This is machine was part of a batch that was produced in November of 1910!

I now have a cast iron mechanism and table to put the machine into. This restoration will involve fixing up the table, which has some chips and stains in the wood veneer, and fine tuning the sewing machine mechanism to get rid of the binding issue.

All the parts are theoretically in and ready to go. Time to get this baby humming!

Apr 8th, 2025 @ 12:00 pm Cleaned and serviced!

David gave the old gal a good cleaning and service! I wanted to see all what he did so I wanted to stick around and watch/help if needed but ended up giving some tours instead. I come back to find him with dental tools getting every last scrap of dust and lint out of the thing. The man is nothing if not thorough!

And Voila! Apparently that was all it needed to start working like a charm! I saw enough of what David did I think to attempt servicing in the future, so hopefully he wont need to save me each time. All the servicing tools live in the craft room too, so If I ever am missing something, I know XC will have what I need to get the job done.

Now its on to fixing up the table! It needs new veneer and some other fixes to old attempts at fixes done improperly ::Sob:: Its a big job to do it all right and get the table in tip top shape. I could probably hook everything up and it would work fine, but I will be honest, I would rather do it right from the get go. Time to go bug someone in the wood shop for help :P
