The Welsh Dragon (Welsh: Y Ddraig Goch, meaning the red dragon) is a heraldic symbol that appears on the national flag of Wales. The oldest recorded use of the dragon to symbolize Wales is in the Historia Brittonum, written around AD 829, but it is popularly supposed to have been the battle standard of King Arthur and other ancient Celtic leaders.
My lovely wife is of Welsh heritage, so I created this as an educational opportunity for me to learn about the Trotec Speedy 300 laser cutter/engraver. All parts are 1/8" plywood.
The sword easel is two mirrored parts. Engraved at 100% power, Speed 20 and 2 passes. The cut was 100%, Speed 0.7 and 2 passes.
I wanted the engraving darker on the dragon (because dragons-> fire). It was engraved in 2 passes at speed 7 and cut in 2 passes at 0.5 speed.
Neither of these was perfect on the first try, but the second was good. The end result is a nice little piece of shelf candy that helped me learn a few things.
