This console table is designed to be a TV stand. My Design Consultant (The Wonderful Ms. Q), wanted a lighter feel and some curves, as well as a touch of Southwestern style. Initial 3D design was in SketchUp Make.
The construction is poplar with Baltic birch shelves for increased strength and stability. There are six side shelf supports and three in the front. Each of these has a gentle curve that lightens the overall impression. Finish is Minwax Slate Blue.
To make a template for the shelf supports, I laser cut a master template from 1/4" acrylic. I then used this to create a sacrificial template from MDF on the router table with a pattern bit. That way if the router damaged the template, I didn't have to start over.
The uprights are connected through the shelves with 2" dowels. The basic frame uses pocket hole joinery which is fast and strong.
The drop-down cabinet door is laser engraved with the coyote and cactus motif.
