Xerocraft Board of Directors

Monthly  Meeting

Sunday, September 15, 2024  in person at Xerocraft

Meeting called to order at 1:01pm

In attendance:  Mike Runde, Dusty Reyes, Don Cue, Geoff Shafer,  Lisa Grenier, Ben Winkler,  Bob Foster

  • Approve meeting minutes from August meeting– unanimous approval
  • President’s Report by Dusty
  • A person has come forward to form a non-profit to acquire the assets of KMKR. Xerocraft would then transfer the FCC license to the non-profit.   We need to do research to determine if this non-profit is a good fit before the transfer happens.
  • Motion by Don, 2nd by Lisa to appoint Mike R to negotiate the deal for Xerocraft.  Mike will report results next month.  Motion approved.
  • Treasurer’s Report by Ben
  • Accounts are holding steady, trending up slightly
  • XC was approved for a new grant for $4,200.  It should arrive approx May 2025
  • Mike will send the $440 in interest earnings from the CD at the credit union to the Operations account
  • Geoff suggested that we look into a possible money market account, tabled until next month
  • Don offered the following tidbit of info:  in 2021 XC operations cost approx $189/day.  In 2024 we are tracking to be at $289/day. Up 52% in 4 years (approx 11%/year compounded) due to increased rent, insurance, repairs, maintenance, utilities, etc. 
  • Membership Report by Lisa
  • Lisa is stepping down from Membership duties but will still continue with volunteer duties.  Goal is to keep the front desk staffed.
  • Mike will follow through on Bit Buckets and Repair Cafe contracts. 
  • Need to fix the family membership form on the website. Tabled until next month
  • Secretary Report by Mike
  • Nothing to report at this time
  • Operations report by Mike
  • United Fire has completed a fire inspection of Xerocraft.  Fire riser and fire sprinklers have been tagged as inspected. 
  • All fire extinguishers at XC have been inspected and tagged. The CO2 extinguisher in the radio station has been replaced with a “dry powder” because the studio is considered an “enclosed space” and can’t be CO2.
  • Programming Report by Geoff
  • All Soul’s Procession wants to use yard space for their float
  • Willing to pay up to $500/workshop series
  • XC needs to have liaison to unlock the door and gate
  • Geoff will check if they need certified shopsss+-
  • Mike will check courtyard availability
  • No decision taken at this time
  • Urban Homesteading is coming back
  • Metal casting shop is requesting more money to get started
  • There are more “advanced” classes coming in the future
  • Starting to think about “cross training classes”.
  • Public Relations and Fundraising Report
  • No Report at this time
  • New Business
  • Angela is leaving 1st Saturday, Rebecca in 3D Printing wants to take over
  • Don wants to consider a “Snow Bird” membership. Tabled
  • Dusty wants to revisit Board member duties. We need Public Relations, Fundraising, and Membership chairs. We may need more folks on the Board to help out with this. XC needs to start searching. We’re supposed to be working 5 hrs/week, but all Board members are working more just to keep up. Board members to start talking to other XC members and managers to get people to join or help out.  Tabled until next month.
