Alexis and Lisa: Updates to WTF
Meant to encourage women and trans people to use makerspaces which tend to be male-dominated.
After 10 years, we feel changes are needed in order to keep reaching out to people who need it. We’re working to bring WTF into the present and make some alterations to make it more of a “rainbow” open hack where no one is “policing gender” or gender expression. But it will have staffers and classes geared toward helping people in the LGBTQIA+ communities. There may be some exclusive classes, but the new open hacks will not be policed.
Lisa B: The name “WTF” will be changed. Candi C is out of town so changes won’t be made yet. Whoever is interested in attending an Open Hack can come, but classes are ones that we feel will reach out particularly to the queer community.
We’re also going to start pushing donations harder at all Open Hacks.
Attendees are welcome to stay when the Open Hack begins, though classes or Open Hack attendees may need your equipment. In that case, we ask you to accommodate them, especially if they have a class scheduled with that equipment.
We’ll need volunteer staffers, particularly in the Wood Shop.
Tom: Webpage that announces when tools are down
Don: Each shop does have tool opinions that can be assigned and track up/down status.
Jeremy: Talk to Kyle.
Jeremy: Alert at top of Shop’s page. SM’s handle it.
Jeremy: Tutorials!
Alexis: Educating new members on certification and general orientation.
Bulletins sound for people to refer to.
Test new RFID recipients on how to open and close.
Jeremy and Alexis are working on some strategies to address this.
