Minutes

  1. Adrian B: 10 Mini 3D printers
  2. Not being used as much. The space is needed.
  3. Another printer coming soon
  4. Pack them away? Find a new home?
  5. About half are working. Two are completely dead.
  6. John N: They’re finicky, hard to start with. A lot of work to keep them working.
  7. Adrian B: They sell on eBay about $50 each. Past their prime. Small.
  8. Adrian B: We had some pro models donated that Adrian got working. We can probably sell those too.
  9. John N will list the pro models on craigslist, and they’ll go from there.
  10. Harvey B: Are they work keeping even in their used state for library classes? Adrian B says no.
  11. Alexis L is looking into restarting the library classes for the summer.
  12. The mini 3D printers and pro model 3D printers will be stored away for now
  13. Adrian B: Adding an Assistant Shop Manager
  14. Rebecca W is becoming the Assistant SM for 3D Printing
  15. Jeremy will set her up
  16. Adrian B: Vinyl cutter station
  17. Rebecca W donated a 24” USCutter vinyl cutter. They have found viable software, similar to LightBurn. Adrian purchased it (2 seats). The vinyl cutter works. Note they need to make a spot for it. They’re thinking of putting in place of the cage and moving the cage to the basement. Some folding tables will have to be moved too. Two PCs will be setup with the software next to the vinyl cutter.
  18. Don C: The software will also run the Silhouette vinyl cutter.
  19. John N: How do we keep track of the vinyl used?
  20. Harvey B: What if users bring their own vinyl?
  21. Adrian: Vinyl retails for $1/sqft
  22. Don C: We’re having trouble charging for consumables like vinyl, laser cutter material, 3D printing filament. Don’t expect to have colors on hand.
  23. Jeremy B: Let's have black and white vinyl on-hand.
  24. Alexis L: They need to bring their own material and we should charge by the linear foot.
  25. Jeremy: Which dept should it fall under?
  26. Alexis: Crafts. Don: Laser cutter.
  27. Consensus: Laser cutter dept, overseen by Rebecca W
  28. Adrian B: Scrap for metalworkers from a friend
  29. Adrian delivered sheet metal, thick aluminum, stainless, copper, brass tubing, next to Free Stuff shelf. Donated by Steven Bell of Desert Woodcrafters. They’ll leave it for us for one week, then have a friend come get the rest.
  30. New compressor donated, needs a little work.
  31. Don will alert Patrick and Tom.
  32. Katherine: There’s so much metal in the back yard and it’s hard to tell what we should or shouldn’t use. Can you mark either? A “please take, it’s free” sign would help.
  33. Ed will mark the stuff he needs.
  34. Jeremy is working on new parking tags to mark items.
  35. Adrian B: Lockable storage
  36. Adrian B: Would Ed like us to move the beige lockable cabinet in the basement out to the back yard.
  37. Ed will be at Xerocraft Tuesday, March 21 from 11am to 6pm.
  38. Jeremy will look for volunteers.
  39. Don C: Update on large laser cutter donation
  40. An organization in northern AZ offered us a very large laser cutter. It has not been used in a long time, the tube is 4 years old, we don’t know its condition.
  41. We decided to pass on the offer.
  42. Geoff S recommends we maintain a collaborative relationship with the organization, though he’s not sure in what form. Geoff is willing to look into it.
  43. Don C: Determining a plan for the Trotec laser cutter
  44. We’ve had it for almost 10 years. It's not very operational right now. The laser tube has nearly failed. It looks like their 10 years of dirt and grime in there. They got the operations manual. They’re considering completely overhauling it and recharging the tube. They'll also look into a different tube. Adrian and Don will bring it to the board.
  45. Desert Woodworkers helped us get a backup tube.
  46. Adrian is confident that they can get it to at least 90% of what it was.
  47. Jeremy B: Should we accept debit and credit cards at the front desk again? Also contactless payment. For accepting payments and donations. Not everyone has cash or the PayPal or Venmo app.
  48. Alexis L: It’s a helpful way to get a membership or donate
  49. Consensus: Yes but make it hard to steal.
  50. Geoff: Consider raising dues to get people to pay for consumables?
  51. Harvey: Remind them that paying for consumables will keep dues down.
  52. Katherine: How do you track how much use you get out of a bit before it must be replaced? Sheet list of consumables with costs?
  53. Harvey B: We chalk that up to “cost of doing business” unless members are doing very large projects.
  54. Steve W: People should be informed to bring their own consumables, not counting certain things like saw blades.
  55. Jeremy B: Moving the Machine Shop and north loft lights off of breaker #6 and onto their own switches
  56. Steve W and Jeremy will discuss it.
  57. Jeremy B: CNC plasma cutter
  58. Ed has some composite decking that could be placed under the plasma cutter.
  59. Harvey B: Selecting shop staffers
  60. Harvey feels that the SM should have final say-so of who staffs their shop. SMs must vet new staffers thoroughly.
  61. Jeremy: Yes, SMs have final say.
  62. Robbie: Power metering
