Minutes

  1. Bob F: Main dust collector needs repair. It is a safety hazard.
  2. The motor finally seized this morning. We need to remove it and send it in for repair to Hemco (2-3 days for repair).
  3. It’ll take 3-4 strong volunteers to remove it. Jeremy will arrange volunteers.
  4. We have a smaller backup dust collector under the basement staircase. It will be difficult to switch the dust collectors between machines. Bob’s not sure how to prioritize it.
  5. Don will announce that the Wood Shop will be less functional while it’s fixed.
  6. Harvey B: We have another motor (yellow) under the basement staircase. It might be compatible. We should check and see if it’ll work.
  7. Adrian tested it. It works. But it’s too powerful for the remote control. Harvey B: Put the table saw on the temporary dust collector. Adrian thinks it’ll work for us.
  8. Bob F: A different motor will affect the duct work and require significant re-ducting.
  9. Get old Grizzly motor repaired, use it as a spare.
  10. John N: Bandsaw has 4” duct so does sander. Slide bandsaw dust collector over to use sander.
  11. Bob F: New fittings and hose for hand held sanders are now available
  12. Our handheld sanders can now be connected to the shop vacs.
  13. Don C: CNC router status
  14. It’s back up and running for now, though the problem will likely return
  15. Adrian and volunteers believe the DB9 cables are overpowered and getting frayed from regular movement. There’s an intermittent anomaly in the cable. Cable replacement is needed.
  16. Cheapest option: resolder the wires
  17. $20: add new connectors
  18. $100: replace cables and connectors (no more DB9)
  19. Robbie recommends AutomationDirect.com for motors, wires by the foot, connectors.
  20. We need 4 pins at 5A. Robbie will look into it.
  21. Jeremy B: CNC plasma cutter update
  22. Getting there! Plasma torch works. Mike R is building the power socket.
  23. Harvey B: Shop Managers getting free classes
  24. Some classes used to be free. Can members in a manager-type role get free class? It helps spread staffing knowledge around.
  25. Alexis L: Shop Managers can come in and meet with staffers and get free one-on-one classes. We’ll discuss this further at the next Shop Manager Orientation meetings.
  26. Don C: Where do we draw the line? Shop Managers? Any staffer? Volunteer or work-trader?
  27. Adrian B: 3D Printing Dept update
  28. Eddie H has made several donations, including one to get a new 3D printer, Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro. The one he wants is out of stock, it should arrive the first week of May.
  29. Still dealing with dust
  30. Robbie recommends a positive pressure hood.
