Agenda

  1. Geoff S: I'd like to ask Shop Leads' opinion on my class rating/payment system. Each student will be asked to complete a short questionnaire about their class, write a phrase about what they learned, and document their name and email so we can enter any certifications they need into the system. I will also ask that they hand these forms to me, in some way within a week or so, so we can document the number of students attending for payment to the instructor, if requested.
  2. Patrick C: steel supply for the MIG and TIG intro welding classes
  3. Patrick C: teacher access
  4. Don C: Mark M as Assistant Laser Shop Manager
  5. Adrian B: 6090 CNC machine update
  6. Jeremy B: Recent incidents in Wood Shop, Machine Shop swamp cooler

Minutes

  2. Keep track of which students completed a class for monitoring and tracking certifications/who has completed a class. Physical documentation is more reliable. Record of attendance.
  3. Questionnaire is attached. It’s optional.
  4. Don: How do we collect it and how does it get to where it needs to go?
  5. Geoff: In Machine Shop and Blacksmithing, the instructors have been collecting them, counts them, emails Ben W for instructor payment, and gives the notes to Geoff.
  6. Mark M: Standard format for forms for all classes in all depts.
  7. Jeremy B: We need to use the website certification system better.
  8. Patrick C: steel supply for the MIG and TIG intro welding classes
  9. They need reliable scrap metal to work with, something that will not get used by others. 2x2” squares of steel and aluminum would be great. 20 pieces per class used. They need a place to lock it up.
  10. Geoff: Industrial Metal Supply, though not as cheap as Tucson Iron and Metal. But TMS wants to sell longer stock. At IMS, you don’t know what you’re going to get. $200 worth should last about a year.
  11. Steve W: It’s great to have clean steel for students but practicing on dirty steel is good too because it teaches them how to handle and clean up dirty steel before a weld.
  12. Patrick: We usually have a supply of dirty steel.
  13. Jeremy: Locking cabinets?
  14. Steve: Steel ammo case that’s lockable. Patrick will take a look.
  15. Patrick C: teacher access
  16. Terry L hasn’t been to Xerocraft in a while and his work-trade membership lapsed. He couldn’t get in. His hours for the month were all earned that day.
  17. Jeremy: We’re going to give instructors a new type of work-trade membership where they don’t have to track their hours.
  18. Don C: Mark M as Assistant Laser Shop Manager
  19. Welcome Mark!
  20. Adrian B: 6090 CNC router update
  21. Adrian and Bud B got it running after they switched to a GRBL-based microcontroller that controls motion. It’ll be as easy to run as a 3D printer. It has a quick-start wizard.
  22. They should have it running late Wednesday.
  23. “You don't have to do it alone!”
  24. Jeremy B: Recent incidents in Wood Shop, Machine Shop swamp cooler
  25. Steve W: Certification tool lockout will help.
  26. Jeremy B: TinkerMill in Colorado has equipment lockouts. I’ll reach out to them about getting the schematics.
  27. Steve W: A sign on each tool of certified people. Every tool that can harm you or be harmed by you should require certification.
  28. Lisa G: Power cord-based equipment lockout with padlocks.
  29. Mark M: A sign of basic safety for every tool.
  30. Steve W: Common format to make it simpler to read. How to use the tool with a few bullet points, and things to check with a few bullet points. Like a pre-flight checklist or a mini user guide.
  31. Bob F: Let’s do the jointer now.
  32. Jeremy will make it a priority.
