Minutes

  1. Don C: New laser cutter
  2. A “new” laser cutter was recently donated by a former member (Candace). Adrian is assisting Don in repairing it and making it run on LightBurn. Great strides made today. It moves in all 3 dimensions. Now they have to figure out firing the laser. 60W CO2 laser, comparable to the blue laser cutter. Smaller bed (12x24in 300x600mm). Extra tube also donated. It’s on its way.
  3. Red Trotec has been sold to a member. They’ll pick it up next week.
  4. Adrian B: Sound system for classroom
  5. We need a better portable PA system
  6. Adrian wants to reserve one of the donated amps and purchase a wireless mic (handheld and lavalier).
  7. Donated portable mixer? (North loft?)
  8. Mark M: Changes in Laser Cutter Dept
  9. Bob D: CO2 extinguishers are for the laser cutters, themselves. CO2 extinguishers are best for electronics. Don’t use a dry-powder extinguisher on the laser cutters! It is corrosive to electronics.
  10. Don teaches this to all students.
  11. Mark found a place that will make a honeycomb plotter for the blue laser cutter.
  12. We lost a lens recently. The first in about 3 months. Lots of lens accumulation today. Lenses are expensive! A member noticed that air assist got shut off in the software. Don sent an email reminder.
  13. Jeremy B: Backyard cameras?
  14. Twice over the last two weeks the MIG gas tanks have been left on (roughly $130-$160 lost). Second time was between April 9 and 12. We should only have to refill them about once every six months. The gate was left unlocked as well.
  15. Don: People aren’t following procedure. What is our means of communicating with members? For example, is every member of the Welding Dept on the shop email list or Discord?
  16. Jeremy can purchase cameras now and get them running out there without internet.
  17. Patrick: Now that Open Hacks are suspended, can we change the combination on the Welding Shed lock?
  18. Lisa can check logs.
  19. John: Who do you call when they can’t get it? Post the “tech support” number on the front door.
  20. Patrick C: We need more signage. Katherine can create it on the laser cutter.
  21. Don C: Processing the recent large items donation
  22. We're working on it
  23. Patrick C: Restarting the fabrication welding class
  24. Patrick intends to hold it monthly. Terry and Patrick are teaching. Looking for more teachers. Leon is taking off for work.
  25. Lisa G: Work-traders as front desk staffers during classes
  26. Front desk staffers to greet attendees at the door.
  27. Front desk staffers for Members Hack on some Saturdays. Light snacks. Some members have expressed missing the social aspect. Also having some shops staffed will allow people to ask questions.
  28. Front desk staffers for Repair Cafe.
