Minutes

  1. Harvey B: Handling of non-members who want to access Xerocraft without joining.
  • Old members sometimes come in attempting to get access. They may attempt to circumvent certification.
  • Current members may bring in too many guests (i.e. more than two).
  1. Members can have up to two guests (who are not allowed to use tools!)
  2. Bob F, Adrian B: Wood Shop floor replacement.
  • David K is going to be project lead.
  • We’re going to stage (i.e. stack, paint, and store) the new floor panels in the basement back door entryway.
  • We’re going to replace the floor in sections. Roughly 4-6 weeks. Intermittent disruptions.
  • Bob F: Reach out to Wood Shop users as soon as possible.
  • John N: Close Wood Shop for a month and reimburse members for lost access
  • Adrian B: We’re probably going to need a dumpster, which must be coordinated with WAMO.
  1. Talk to Sean W, consult the Steinfeld Community Calendar.
  • The Board will discuss financing the project.
  1. Patrick C, Geoff S: Permanently moving the forge and anvils into the first booth outside when available. Allowing regular member use outside of open forges and simplifying the space.
  • To improve Blacksmithing, move forge and anvils to bay next to Blacksmithing. Can we get them and when?
  • Mike R is the one to talk to about it. We could rent it, possibly for $1/month. But we have to perform all improvements and the rent will increase.
  • Don C: When would the forge be fired up? Would anything change?
  1. Geoff S: Not at this time, though Patrick would eventually like to do that. Some members have asked. Additional gas fees would be required. The Board will have to approve it.
  2. We go thru a single 24lb tank in 4 hrs. Refill is $20-25. $15/session. Just two attendees makes our money back.
  3. Power, floor, roof need to be added to the bay next to Blacksmithing.
  4. Patrick C, Geoff S: Move Langmuir CNC into previous forge space after that and install workbench along wall for grinders/drill press.
  • Probably won’t cost anything.
  1. Patrick C, Geoff S: Sand blasting cabinet repair underway, need some parts but don't know prices yet. Might need larger air compressor to run optimally.
  • Volunteer Andrei is working on it. It’s a mostly good unit.
  • Jeremy spoke to Andrei about getting reimbursed for purchases.
  1. Patrick C, Geoff S: Possibly bring in a veteran group for blacksmithing. Community engagement plus visibility.
  • A couple of the volunteer blacksmith staffers are veterans.
  • Associations with veterans organizations to fund class fees for veterans.
  • Jeremy likes the idea.  Anna M recommended a similar idea: reduced membership for vets. Reduced membership, class fees, etc for vets could get us featured in Strike! Magazine and elsewhere.
  • Adrian B: Reach out to VFW clubs, DAV clubs, the veterans organization on Broadway.
  • Mark M has a friend with contacts in VFW.
  1. Don C: Donated laser cutter.
  • We were contacted by someone who wants to donate a 60W OmTech laser cutter, 100%* functional. It’s in Sahuarita. *It’s donated.
  1. Don C: Possible injection molding machines?
  • The laser cutter donor also has two injection molding machines.
  • Jeremy, Adrian are interested. Can we get pictures and machine models/specs?
  1. Marc H: Proposal for Xerocraft to join as a member of Tucson TimeBank.
